Air travel: (almost) all roads lead to America

PAir France’s first long-haul destination, the United States will benefit this summer from an increased offer with nearly 200 weekly flights to 14 cities, i.e. 20% more than in the summer of 2019. The crisis is largely erased. And the filling of the planes is satisfactory, even in the classes at the front of the aircraft (first, business, eco premium), by passengers traveling for leisure, but wishing to benefit from maximum comfort. Since last November, the number of AF flights to North America has increased by 21%, which represents 2,200 flights per month. The pace is such that Roissy CDG-New York JFK, from June, is provided by shuttle with a departure every two hours, including those of partner Delta. These eight flights in total, on the return, take off from JFK every hour, jet lag obliges. The daily from Orly to JFK also resumed at the end of March.

At the airport in the south of Paris, French bee, the low cost of the Dubreuil group, sister of Air Caraïbes, opened a flight to New York-Newark last summer (less crowded than JFK and closer to Manhattan). At first, only American customers filled the Airbus A350, Europeans not having access to the United States. With deconfinement, the service, which will be daily this summer, is 80% full. Since 2018, French bee has been hitting San Francisco three times a week, on the flight to Papeete. A new West Coast destination, Los Angeles, is offered this month in competition with Air France, Air Tahiti Nui and Delta. On December 15, the French low cost will fly to Miami. The tariff offer of this rush to the west is thus very wide ranging from low cost to first through eco, eco premium and business class. But all prices are tending to rise, driven by the cost of a ton of kerosene, which has doubled in one year…

From the province

The company offers from Orly, also to Newark, a high-end daily flight on board an A321neo configured with only 76 bed-seats in business class (compared to more than 200 in economy). And three times a week, the same service is provided from Nice-Côte d’Azur. The American companies Delta and United also serve Nice from New York.

Canada is no exception. Corsair flies to Montreal in the summer from Orly. Air Canada, in addition to its flights from Roissy-CDG, connects Nice to Montreal. Flights from French cities to Quebec are a specialty of Air Transat which touches Nice, Marseille, Nantes, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Basel-Mulhouse. The Canadian leisure company of course takes off from CDG to Montreal (up to three daily), Quebec (three per week) and Toronto (three per week). New at Air France, in addition to the three daily newspapers to Montreal, a flight to Quebec appears on the summer schedule. Opening May 17. Overall, supply to Canada is 25% higher than before the crisis.

A new business seat at Air France

An airliner in a major airline lives for about twenty years. If the maintenance of the engines or the landing gear is carried out on a daily basis, the cabin is renovated every five to seven years. After the Airbus A330, Air France has just launched the rejuvenation of the interior equipment of the Boeing 777-300. These spearhead aircraft for long-haul services must be on top to seduce passengers when they return after two years of confinement on the ground.

On the new long-haul Business seat, the 3 “F” concept has been taken up, which is available in Full Flat, i.e. a real flat bed of almost 2 meters, Full Access, where everyone has direct access to driveway and Full Privacy, for optimal privacy. Thus a new sliding door makes it possible to completely privatize its own space, thus preserved from the rest of the cabin. For two-person trips, the seats in the middle of the cabin now have a center wall that can be lowered. The chair also has a large 17.3-inch 4K High Definition anti-reflective screen, equipped with noise-canceling headphones, a new Bluetooth connection to use your own headphones, and multiple sockets.
