Afghanistan agree to resumption of women’s cricket: ICC

Dubai, 13 November (Agency)

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Sunday that the Afghanistan government has given in-principle consent for the resumption of women’s cricket in the country. Afghanistan cricket, especially women’s cricket, was shrouded in uncertainty last year when the political landscape underwent drastic changes after the Taliban took over the country.

The ICC had constituted a working group to review the state of cricket in the country. The Board has received an update from the Afghanistan Working Group. “The meeting was positive and the government representatives were in full support of the ICC constitution, which includes in principle the resumption of women’s cricket in Afghanistan,” said working group chairman Imran Khawaja. Afghanistan is one of the full member countries of the ICC. The Afghanistan men’s team participated in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups.
