Akashdeep Singh’s hat-trick also went in vain for the Indian men’s hockey team as they lost 4-5 to Australia in the first Test of the five-match series after conceding a last-minute goal here. Akashdeep Singh (10th, 27th and 59th minutes) scored three goals while captain Harmanpreet Singh (31st minute) converted a penalty corner. Lachlan Sharpe (5th), Nathan Iframs (21st), Tom Craig (41st) and Blake Govers (57th and 60th) scored for Australia. Gowers scored twice from penalty corners towards the end of the match. The match looked set to end in a 4–4 draw but a last-minute goal from Govers gave the home team victory. The second match of the series will be played on Sunday.
