A Mexican businessman becomes the majority owner of Badajoz

The Mexican group Atlantis, with businessman José Luis Orantes as visible headhas become the majority shareholder of the CD Badajoz by taking over 60 percent of the club’s share capital, whose president will be the lawyer from Badajoz Luis Diaz Ambrona.

In this way Orantes will become the CEO of the black and white club, which plays in the First RFEF, while the general director will be the also Mexican Leonard Casanova.

In a press conference after the meeting this Thursday of the shareholders’ meeting and the formation of the new board of directors, Orantes pointed out that his group is made up of “two great families” from his country with extensive experience in investment and team management of Mexican soccer.

In his case, he recalled that “for many years” he has owned the Chiapas Coffee Growers and “recently” Cancun F.C.

Orantes stated that the objective of his group “is clear, that CD Badajoz is in the place it deserves”, a task that the new investors will promote “with great humility”, for which they have also asked the black and white fans to “vote of confidence” necessary.

The Oliver Group will have the remaining 40 percent of the club’s shareholding. On the board of directors will be Alexandra Oliverdaughter of Luis Oliver, who has been until now the main visible head of the entity.

The former president of Elche Diego Garcia will be responsible for the legal area of ​​the black and white club.

García stated that they are waiting to know the final figure of the debt to pay the amount. Between debts with the players, arbitration payments and other items could amount to 1.3 million euroswithout counting the bankruptcy or other concepts.

Díaz Ambrona highlighted the responsibility of presiding over the club in his city and that he hopes that after the “many difficulties” that Badajoz has gone through in recent times, he can opt for the highest levels in the First RFEF.
