- Akali Dal dissatisfied and BSP MLA’s vote counted in support, Congress walkout
Chandigarh, October 3 (TRINEW)
Punjab’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government again won the trust vote in the Assembly on Monday. AAP had 91 MLAs in the House excluding the Speaker, but the Speaker claimed 93 votes for the Chief Minister in support of the vote of confidence. The vote of disgruntled Akali Dal and BSP MLA was also counted in support of AAP. During this, Congress boycotted the house. The BJP has already boycotted the House for the entire session.
It was announced by the Punjab government to bring a vote of confidence in protest against Operation Lotus. There has been a tussle between the Governor of Punjab and the Chief Minister on this issue. After several days of uproar, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann moved a motion of confidence in the House when the assembly proceedings began on September 27. The motion was to be discussed in the House on Monday. As soon as the action started, Congress MLAs started a ruckus and walked out of the house opposing the confidence motion. When the Chief Minister started presenting the government’s side on the trust vote motion, Akali Dal’s Manpreet Singh Iyali and BSP MLA Nachhatra Singh were present on the opposition benches in the House. During the discussion on this proposal in the House, AAP MLA Sheetal Angural also raised slogans against the BJP.
When voting on the resolution took place, 91 AAP MLAs expressed their faith in the leadership of Bhagwant Mann and supported him. Manpreet Iyali and BSP MLA Nachhatra Singh, who are angry with Akali Dal, did not vote during the protest. Due to this, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwa announced that 93 votes have come in support of the government’s vote of confidence.
