Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on Monday created a new List A world record by smashing seven sixes in an over during a Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day cricket match. He showed this feat in the 49th over of the innings against Uttar Pradesh in the quarter-finals. The bowler was left-arm spinner Shiva Singh, who also bowled a no-ball in this over, making it a seven-ball over. Total 43 runs were scored in this over.

Earlier in the Ford Trophy in 2018, Brett Hampton and Joe Carter for Northern Districts scored as many runs in an over as Willem Ludik of Central Districts. The overall record for most sixes in an over is held by New Zealand’s Lee Germon, who hit eight sixes in a Shell Trophy match at Wellington.

Gaikwad stayed at the crease from the beginning till the end of the innings. He scored an unbeaten 220 off 159 balls, which included 10 fours and 16 sixes. With the help of his innings, Maharashtra scored 330 runs for five wickets while batting first. The contribution of his teammates in this was only 96 runs.
